In 1984, the Grafton Water District was formed by an Act
of the Massachusetts Legislature. In February 1988, the District
took over operations of the Massachusetts American Water Company,
which had operated the system since 1893.
The District provides water to a population of just over
10,000 people. The system consists of:
- five wells
- four pumping stations
- one iron and manganese water treatment
- over 72 miles of distribution piping ranging from 2 inches to 16 inches in diameter
- three storage tanks with a capacity of 1.8 million gallons
- two booster pump stations
- over 700 fire hydrants
